Research
Duncan has published over 50 papers in world leading refereed journals including Academy of Management Executive, Administrative Science Quarterly (ASQ), British Journal of Management, (BJM), California Management Review (CMR), IJMR, Journal of World Business, Long Range Planning (LRP), MIT Sloan Management Review, and Organization Studies. He has presented well over 200 conference papers at leading international conferences. His research has been recognised by a 2018 Best Conference Paper Prize at the European Academy of Management (EURAM) conference in Reykjavik, Iceland, for a paper on routines in M&A, a 2017 Best Conference Paper Prize at the Academy of Management Conference in Atlanta, USA for a paper on the influences of office space on strategizing and a 2008 Best Conference Paper Prize for Practice Implications at the Strategic Management Society Conference, Cologne, Germany for a paper on the work of Strategy Directors. Duncan has been nominated 5 times for best paper prize at the Strategic Management Society conference and twice at the Academy of Management conference where there are around 11,000 submissions per year. He sits on a number of editorial boards of leading strategy journals and is currently Associate Editor of Long Range Planning (LRP).
Duncan has been engaged in research at the highest level having completed a major €10 million research project (FOODIMA) for the European Union on M&A in the European food industry. He has won a major four-year research award at Said Business School, Oxford University, to study M&A communications practices and in 2014 won a further award from the Foundation of Economic Education (Liikesivistysrahasto), Finland to research high-tech international mergers. His most recent research funding was from the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) to research the timing of integration activities in M&A.
Duncan is a founding member of The European M&A Institute, based in Toulouse France and also sit on the Toulouse School of Management international advisory board. He has also sat on a range of Advisory Boards including the M&A research centre, BAYES Business School, City University, London and at ENPC, a Grand Ecole, Paris. He has also acted for many years as a senior judge for the Management Consultancy Association, London annual best consulting practice awards.
